Power Outage at Concordia Wellhouse June 4, 2024

143

Due to the recent storm that went through this afternoon, wind damage has broken power lines a couple miles south of Concordia off 150th Rd. The Concordia well house is without electricity. You may be experiencing low water pressure. Clint is hooking up the generator to start the well and get water pumped into the tower. Please conserve water as much as  possible so the generator can keep up with filling the tower.  The District may need to continue using the generator until the power poles are replaced and power is restored - timeframe is unknown. You should  have water but may experience lower water pressure.

Water Flushing - Thursday, March 21, 8:30am

We are receiving calls about discolored water around the Concordia system.  This is due to the manganese and iron that was stirred up in the water from the major line break the District experienced last week at the north end of the system. Some people are experiencing cloudy water which is caused by air in the water. This is also an after effect of the leak repair. It takes time for the unsettled water to work its way around the system. Clint will continue to flush main lines - yesterday he flushed Noble Rd and 140th North of Noble Rd. Today he expects to flush Hawk Rd, Fawn Rd and 120th Rd.

We are in a position to rescind the current Water Conservation Plan level 1 which was put in place last week. This means you may resume normal water usage - watering livestock, watering yards, etc. We have received some calls regarding discolored water and if you let me or Clint know, we will arrange to flush the water main servicing you so you can flush your house lines. The discoloration is from manganese and iron sediment that has settled in the lines over the years. With line breaks, especially like the major ones experienced recently, the sediment gets stirred up into the water. Manganese and iron are naturally occuring in the water and are considered a secondary health issue. You can bathe in discolored water and drink it - it will not harm you. We were in contact with KDHE several days ago and they DID NOT put us under a boil water advisory.

UPDATE - Sunday, March 17, 2:15pm

The water outage experienced by patrons in the past week appears to be resolved and water service restored to those who have been without. With the assistance of the Kansas Rural Water Association, leaks were repaired and pressure restored throughout the Concordia water system. The line break at 81 highway and Noble Rd still needs to be permanently repaired at a future date, but poses no issues currently. We are in the process of flushing lines to improve water quality. If you are experiencing discolored water, please contact the office. The office now has a cell

Patrons – we have had representatives from Kansas Rural Water Association working with us on this water outage. We believe the issue is a water lock where there is air trapped in the line and the water is behind it unable to escape so the water is cannot run through the pipes. We opened hydrants on the end of the line on Noble Road (down by Sterrett’s and Boley’s) and up along 81 and 140th at the end at Blochlinger’s and Dooley’s. By opening the hydrants at the end of the lines, the water should push the air out and run through the lines. We also had opened the water
